Croeso i Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant

A message from the Headteacher

Welcome to our school website

Welcome to our  school website at Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant.Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant was the very first Welsh medium primary school in Wales to be supported by any Local authority . The school was established in 1947. There were 34 pupils present on the First day of March 1947 when the school opened it’s doors at Seion Chapel Schoolroom. By today there are over 450 pupils and the school provides education of the highest standard through the medium of Welsh for pupils living in the town of Llanelli. English is introduced to all pupils from Year 3 onwards. Although nearly 90% of our pupils come from non Welsh speaking homes all our pupils are totally bilingual when they transfer to the secondary school. Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant is a very friendly and happy school. ESTYN’s report in 2009 described the school as:-

Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant is a good school with excellent features”

The school offers a variety of valuable extra curricular experiences and this helps to prepare the pupils to become responsible and mature individuals who respect each other and respect their Welsh heritage. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant and as school staff we look forward to working with you for the educational benefit of your child.
